Around one million passengers travel through Graz Airport every year. These business travellers and travel-stressed tourists generally don’t have time to take a look behind the scenes of this beacon Styrian company. Time that anyone interested should, however, now take for the behind-the-scenes tour of the airport. Sneak glimpses of plane preparation and the airport fire brigade, usually never to be had, are on the flight plan. Other items on the “itinerary” include: the business aspects of the airport, that ensures fast connections to global markets for international companies and research facilities, for instance the local automotive industry, hi-tech companies in the wood industry, medicine and ecology, along with the Styrian universities.

The new behind-the-scenes tour gives visitors fascinating insights, showing them what happens away from the departures hall and apron!”, Provincial Councillor for Economic Affairs Christian Buchmann is pleased to report on the latest member in the beacon project initiated by him. Guided airport tours have long played an important role for us and we are proud to be the 47th member company of the ‘Erlebniswelt Wirtschaft’ project”, explains Gerhard Widmann, Managing Director of Graz Airport.
Incidentally, Creative Industries Styria (CIS) – responsible for the high quality of the tours – is interfacing between companies and the creative sector in this project. The behind-the-scenes tour of Graz Airport was developed by look! design: “What would Styria be without an airport? This is the question we asked ourselves in putting together a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport as a commercial enterprise, focusing on all of the organisational and security procedures that take place in the background”, explains Stefanie Schöffmann from look! design.
