Swissport and Graz Airport launch joint venture for air freight services

Zürich/Graz, 1/2/2016: Swissport International, the world’s largest ground handling and air freight service provider in the aviation industry, and Flughafen Graz Betriebs GmbH announce the launch of their newly established joint venture: Swissport Cargo Services Graz offers a wide range of cargo services and will handle an estimated 10,000 tons of air freight every year for its customers – airlines and freight forwarders.

A key advantage of the new joint venture company Swissport Cargo Services Graz for its airline customers and carriers is the location on the airport site, enabling direct access to and thus handling of air freight. The freight section at Graz Airport boasts leading-edge infrastructure and the right equipment for the job – together with the global expertise of Swissport, the new joint venture company Swissport Cargo Services Graz is excellently equipped to guarantee its customers the best possible service.

“We were looking for a strong partner for some time to improve the position of our freight service in future”, say Wolfgang Malik, Chairman of the Board of Holding Graz, and Gerhard Widmann, Managing Director of Flughafen Graz GmbH. “Swissport is not only the ideal partner, we are also convinced that founding our subsidiary is the most sustainable and forward-looking solution for us and for the Styrian business world.”

“Thanks to our cooperation our customers at Graz Airport will benefit from enhanced quality standards combined with local expertise”, says Philipp Joeinig, Executive Vice President Europe Central, East, West. “We are proud to offer high-quality and innovative cargo services in the form of our new joint venture company Swissport Cargo Services Graz.”

The cargo centre at Graz Airport:
Around twenty connections a day create the ideal conditions at Graz Airport to link the Styrian business region up with the global air freight network. The direct connection to the motorway and thus to Graz’s rolling highway terminal ensures a smooth, efficient interaction of all means of transport.

Graz Airport has one of the most modern, functional cargo infrastructures in the South-East Europe region. Thanks to this and the flexible team, we can effect transports to and from most European airports within twenty-four hours.
