Swissport International to expand air freight services in Austria
Swissport International, the world’s largest ground handling and air freight service provider in the aviation industry, and Flughafen Graz Betriebs GmbH have signed a declaration of intent concerning the formation of a joint venture company to provide air freight services at Graz Airport. The joint venture company Swissport Cargo Services Graz is scheduled to commence operation at the beginning of 2016.
Zürich/Graz, 14/07/2015 – In future, Swissport Cargo Services Graz will provide a wide range of cargo services at Graz Airport in Austria. The newly established joint venture will handle an estimated 10,000 tons of air freight every year for its customers – airlines and freight forwarders. Customers at Graz Airport will benefit from improved quality standards combined with local expertise and established infrastructures. The operational organisation remains unchanged.
A key advantage of the new joint venture company Swissport Cargo Services Graz for its airline customers and carriers is the location on the airport site, enabling direct access to and thus handling of air freight. Together with the existing customer base and experienced staff, the new service provider Swissport Cargo Services Graz is thus ideally equipped to guarantee its customers the best possible service.
“Over the past months we have held intense talks with Swissport International AG with the aim of putting the future of air freight at Graz Airport on an even stronger footing”, say Dipl. Ing. Wolfgang Malik, Chairman of the Board of Holding Graz, and Mag. Gerhard Widmann, Managing Director of Graz Airport. “The goal was to establish a close cooperation that would lead to the expansion of freight activities, widen the range of services offered, and enhance the quality of services, so as to benefit not only Graz Airport but also and above all the Styrian economy. We are very pleased that we have achieved this goal in the form of a joint venture company together with the world’s largest provider of air freight services.”
“We are proud partners in this joint venture company”, says Philipp Joeinig, Executive Vice President Europe at Swissport International. “The special quality of this union is that we can build on existing and future customer relations so as to expand the range of our cargo services in Austria not only from Vienna to Graz, but in future also beyond. We look forward to delivering high-quality cargo services together with Flughafen Graz Betriebs GmbH and their professional and highly motivated staff to a growing number of customers in Austria.”
Swissport International Ltd. operates for around 700 customers in the aviation industry. The company provides ground handling services for more than 224 million passengers, handling 4.1 million tons of freight every year.
