Ringing in the last round!

The last phase of the reconstruction work at Graz Airport has begun. Arrival and Departure areas are today re-connected to form one building.

Feldkirchen, 04 Oct. 2005: “For months, the arrival and departure areas were divided by the construction site”, explains Gerhard Widmann, Managing Director of Graz Airport. “But today, the two areas have been re-connected so that they form one unit again!”

Wolfgang Messner and Wolfgang Malik, members of the Board of Grazer Stadtwerke AG, the owner of Graz Airport, call the second and last phase of the reconstruction work “another winning chapter in the history of success of Graz Airport.” “Immediately after its opening last spring, the new terminal established itself as a prestige project on an international level. The successful concept is very appealing from the aesthetic point of view and takes account of the rapidly growing passenger numbers.”

Desks and back-office areas for airlines, travel agencies and travel organisers were built so that the Airport can offer a new quality of work to its business partners. The expansion of the Mini Markt shop ensures a convenient shopping experience without any crushing and pushing in the wide aisles.
The rooms that had formerly been used as waiting rooms for departure were redesigned and turned into the new arrival area. All the reconstruction work takes EU safety regulations into account.

The Airest restaurant is going to attain its final size at the end of October and offer even more seats and a wonderful view of the apron.

At the end of November/early December, the reconstruction work will finally be accomplished. Up until then, existing baggage belts will be reconstructed and new ones built, further desks will be built and entrance areas redesigned. “Compared to the work of the last 25 months, these are just minor tasks that will be far less visible and noticeable than the other major achievements” concludes Mr. Widmann.
